Description
Richard Réti is one of the most fascinating characters in the history of chess. Réti developed theories that were regarded as little less than revolutionary in his era. He asserted that, contrary to classical principles, the centre need not be occupied by pawns. This must have seemed like heresy to the classically-minded grandmasters of his day.
This new approach was dubbed “Hypermodern” and led to the development of the Réti Opening (1 Nf3). Réti’s theories have been proved sound and have stood the test of time. Réti scored many fine wins against the great players of his day.
Thomas Engqvist is an International Master from Sweden. He has over 30 years experience as a chess coach and teacher.
